end of another era
Filed under: ateneo blue booterslast sunday was one of the best football days: i was with my football girls (yes, yan na tawag ko sa inyo), i took a lot of nice photos, it was a great game, and of course, ateneo won. yesterday was the complete opposite.
nevertheless, i'm still happy that we got to be part of another season, as swift as it may have been. i'm proud of our team; they've gone a long way since last year and being in the finals is already a huge accomplishment.
it's sad though, because we know less and less players. that was the final UAAP game of patrick ozaeta and alvin perez, which we believe to be the two most valuable players of the ateneo team in the years we have been watching football. it wasn't the same when most of the champion team were gone when we graduated, and it wouldn't be the same without these guys next year.
next year? oh we'll definitely be there.

i've been looking at pictures from the past seasons and i can't help noticing the "evolution" in my photography; i've not only upgraded my equipment (from a point-and-shoot to a legit digital SLR), but i'm happy to say that the quality of my work has improved. i'm in no way a legit sports photographer yet, but i will get there someday. :)
keeping it real
Filed under: ateneo blue booters, life's like that, mr. sandman bring me a dream, sunny side up, work work work- "great teams wax and wane."-- rick olivares. the ateneo blue booters have ended the 1st round of the UAAP football season with 1 win, the rest losses. sad to say, the 3-peat team is indeed gone. even with championship veterans pat ozaeta and gino tongson in the team, the majority of the roster is still composed of rookies. i want to get angry at some of them (especially the one by the name of kurt alvarez), but then i realized that it's not worth it, nor is it going to achieve anything. it's sad not seeing captain mickey ingles, best striker roger lastimado, mickee gimarino (the best midfielder for us!), alvin perez, jp merida, jerwin belina, jerome reyes, zaldy maranon, peter mortillero -- and all those players who we supported throughout college. i guess it's just sinked in recently that our batch is really gone. and the blue booter batch we now should support are the "new blood" -- rs mantos, jj clemente, james arco, jiggy sulit, gab siojo (yes, another siojo), mico noel, derick candelaria, and others who hope to continue the legacy.
- "what cannot be cured must be endured." --and i forgot what novel i got this from (hehe). i have come to accept the inevitable that is work. more specifically, working in IBM. i won't elaborate anymore since i have been ranting about this since forever. put simply, as long as i can handle it, i might as well stick with it. my manager actually gave me a rating i honestly feel like i don't deserve -- a 2! oh well, at least i'm getting paid (for doing things i don't like and for not caring about the company) -- i know it's not much of a consolation, but hey, i get to actually save this time.
- money isn't everything. i thought i would be happy just getting paid, but there's more to work AND life. i realized that i would rather do something i love and get paid very little, than getting a higher salary for do something i don't give a shit about. but for now, i'm surviving with the idea that i can eventually resign and that i am not alone --a lot of people in this world also hate their jobs. haha.
- "it's not a matter of compatibility; it's how you work things out." --my dad. and making it work is so much more difficult than what is anticipated.
- there is a God, and He is actually telling me something. i heard this passage thrice in 3 weeks already:
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. --1 Corinthians 13.

had a weird dream. there was a guy touching my ass (again).
last sunday, mary and i watched the ateneo blue booters battle it out with kaya at the ultra football stadium. kaya won, 1-0.this is the second time i've seen the new lineup. honestly, i think the team is still far from the old team, in terms of confidence and performance. more than half of the 2006 team is gone, hence, there are a lot of rookies in the team and perhaps they are still not that comfortable with each other. i still can't say much about the new players, but i sure miss the old team.
the loss does not even matter. i'm just ridiculously excited for the upcoming UAAP football season (although i wonder how the hell i'm going to get out of work early to watch the game), and glad to be able to take pictures again.
and a preview by rick olivares.

this is a vulture.

this is from the football team's championship shirt.

hindi ko alam na ateneo blue vultures na pala. haha. we may be the champions in sports, debate, english, and a lot of other aspects, but apparently, we suck at drawing. or distinguishing animals for that matter.

grabe. nakakatawa ba kung sabihi kong muntik na kong maiyak habang binabasa ko yun? hehe. but seriously, i will miss our football days. i think i already do. nevermind the photographs (that i will not be able to take in about a year -- and that is thinking hopefully). it will never be the same again without the team lineups (and very interesting people!) we have seen throughout our college life: those years with evan santos, gian achacoso, enzo (dunno his surname), "coach" aris bocalan, james (forgot your surname), jason costanilla, "kuya" chico ingles, alfred roa, roger lastimado, mickey ingles, mickee gimarino, pat ozaeta, alvin perez, gerard cancio, jerome reyes, gino tongson, tristan tongson, fred ozaeta, zaldy maranon, peter mortillero, migs siojo, neil calinawagan, jerwin belina, jp merida, jolo peralta, sam wilson, coach ompong, and all the other football athletes (whose names i don't know or perhaps forgot -- i know you by face! hehe).
it will never be the same without those guys.
to our friends: shean, jang, pril, rahel and peds;
to new-found football friends: angel and vicky;
and especially to my fellow football fans who have cut class, endured the heat, cheered and jeered with me: joan, gela, mary, coloy, eboy, teng, and bj (and all others i forgot)
-- til next year and the years to come :)
P.S. i can't believe i'm THIS forgetful. haha. depleting brain cells.

is nugget. benjo drove by yesterday so i can meet him, and damn, that dog is really THAT cute. i want to keep him!!!!! :)the game between the ateneo men's football team and the la salle football team resulted in a draw. yes, a draw. it wasn't really that disappointing, for some reason. the players were very disappointed though. it's bad, i know, to even think that i'm "sort of" glad the season isn't finished yet because i get to take more pictures. haha. anyway, the next game is on thursday, against la salle. good thing is that we're in a twice-to-beat position. i hope we win. they deserve it. :)
on another note, our thesis paper is done, finally. in about an hour we're going to print and BIND it. more power to joan and me. haha.fyi, joan and shean shot their commercial (a class project) with some players of the UP footbal team. nakakatuwa sila :) i like andoni santos and nacho (forgot his surname) :) hehe. too bad i won't be seeing them again :( --> no thanks to that good-for-nothing-person-who-thinks-he's-actually-smart. another "grudge" against him. haha.

made my day. a quote: About Relationships- Theres this thing called masturbation. all of the pleasure, none of the drama. wehehehehe.
anyway, today the ateneo blue booters once more proved that they are UNDEFEATABLE. the final score was 4-1, thanks to jp merida, sam wilson, and gerard cancio, who made 2 consecutive goals!
and yes, you read it correctly. 4-1. someone finally got past our goalie, jerwin belina. but hey, what's 1 goal compared to 4, right? :)
i can't wait for sunday!!!!! that'll be the last game though (hehe, yes, i am assuming), and i'm sort of disappointed though, because i won't be able to take any more sports pics for a while. :(
from atenista.net's jkad:
Ateneo demolished UST 4-1 behind a relentless attack from the opening whistle. For a while though, it looked like the soccer gods were conspiring against us. In the first 5 minutes, Cancio had a golden opportunity to put Ateneo ahead when he walloped a half volley from point-blank range. UST's keeper however was able to deflect it a bit towards the sidepost. After that, Ateneo kept pushing forward yet uncharacteristic indecision in the penalty area led to weak attempts at goal that were easily corralled by the keeper. It looked like the first half would end in a scoreless draw until deep into injury time, Roger Lastimado won a corner for Ateneo. Roger took it himself and made a bullseye cross to JP Merida who headed in the goal over the keeper's hands and barely under the crossbar. Ateneo crowd goes wild, the sweep is alive.
THe next two goals offered us a glimpse of our future when Cancio scored 2 goals from out of nowhere in true goal poaching tradition ala Ronaldo. The fourth goal came very near the end when crowd favorite Sam Wilson knocked in a rebound off a Gimarino(?) shot. One hiccup was the first goal allowed by Ateneo in the whole tournament, again off a dead ball situation. During its 3 year championship run, Ateneo has been at its most vulnerable during free kicks near the goal. We have to be more careful about useless fouls in our half of the field in our championship game on Sunday against La Salle.
See you guys on Sunday, let's cheer our boys on in what could potentially be the last game of the UAAP careers of Ingles, Lastimado, Gimarino, Merida, Maranon, Mortillero and Calinawagan. One Big Fight.
A testament to how balanced the team is, 7 different Eagles have scored in this tournament.
Lastimado (5)
Ingles (3)
Cancio (3)
Merida (2)
Ozaeta (2)
Tongson, G (1)
Maranon (1)

the feb 14 aftermath:
um, nothing to report pala. haha.

was one hell of a game!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha wala na akong masabi. ang saya-saya lang talaga!!! :) at the last minute, slow motion pa!
congrats to the team :) mickey i was suspended (at i think sinadya niya yun), so pat was the one who wore the red and black band for the day.
sidestory: whatever talaga ang UST players! parang, excuse me no, nauna kami ni mary dito. and now, you're blocking our view, and making papansin (haha sorry for that)! feeling gwapo, looking gago (sounds like another stupid prick that i know). but anyway, it was a funny experience.

"exclusive but no commitment" my ass. i am NOT going to wait forever. haha. the ball will be in MY court.
we won

..again. and guess who we saw at the game? :)the score was 1-0, courtesy of pat ozaeta's penalty kick. the game was exhausting -- even for us. it was difficult to take pictures; it rained during the first half of the game, and i needed to keep on zooming during the second half (hence the terrible picture quality). the referee SUCKED. if not for his stupid calls, we would have gotten more goals. and i can't believe the UP team would sink THAT low. perhaps it's due to the pressure -- imagine, not winning any game (hmm, kumusta naman ans women's team natin?!)! nonetheless, our team showed great sportsmanship.
benta si #14. haha. pang-famas ang acting. hehe.
happy birthday to our goalie, jerwin belina! good job :)

of the first round of the UAAP football season. bulok yung ref today, but so what, panalo naman. and of course, we're on top. :) the game versus UST resulted in 1-0, thanks to the lone goal by captain mickey ingles.
so far, the standings of the men's division are: (from atenista.net)
ADMU - 5 - 0 - 0 = 15
DLSU - 3 - 0 - 2 = 9
UST - 2 - 1 - 2 = 7
FEU - 2 - 1 - 2 = 7
UE - 1 - 1 - 3 = 4
UP - 0 - 1 - 4 = 1
champion na 'to!!!!
sa aking mga kaibigan na "nakarami": magpasalamat kayo at pangarap kong maging potograpo. hehe. magandang practice ang football games. :) some pictures are in my multiply site, but i'm probably gonna search for a better photo host (damn you slow internet connection!!!). i've also edited some pics to put in my deviantart site.
we won..again

the ateneo men's football team won today against FEU. the final score was 3-0, courtesy of roger with 2 goals (in the first 30 minutes of the game) and mickey during the 2nd half.that's joan, gela and me :)
i finally remembered to bring my camera. and it looks like i still need A LOT MORE practice :) the weather was so "indecisive" today. dahil ba patay na si ernie baron? haha. and because of that, i have tanlines on my feet. haha. slippers? never again during a football game.
